Website Server Move

I’ve moved the website server away from my self hosted solition and onto a cheap VPS (virtual private server). This is a temporary solution as my main server is having network issues that keep happening beyond my control.

The good news is that I now have an understanding about how VPS technology works. If you’re a private individual or a small business, you can have your own website hosting for cheap using a VPS – if you want to keep costs down but have more control over your services. I’ve got a cheap package that is affordable to all and can handle a few users at a time so maybe hundreds or even a few thousand a day – but higher spec packages and dedicated hosting (your own machine) are also available if you need a service that can handle tens or hundreds of thousands of users daily.

Also I set up a basic LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) with firewall, SSL certificates, Postfix email, and some extra security in a few hours. Easy, job done!

Updated & Working

A small but important update.

The SykesNet.org website has finally been updated and is working. The site is missing projects, and there is no LinkedIn link at the moment – to be made soon as things are set up!

New Website

I am excited to launch my new website – SykesNet.org, where all my projects and useful code snippets can be displayed. I can also be found on various social platforms – my GitHub is linked here, and I can be contacted directly via the contact form on this website.

There’s still lots to do here, such as creating a projects page and updating the home page and the about page – but looking good so far!
